The book is a biography of Unge’s father, his relationship with him throughout his life, his death and thoughts about his own parenthood. But just as large a character in the story is the liver, in myth and medicine, and its role in his father’s death.

My illustration was painted in acrylic on board, and was inspired by the Ancient Greek myth of Prometheus (condemned to have his liver ripped out each day by an eagle), anatomical illustration and the wonderful bird paintings of John Audubon.
